Tesco confirms Google Glass shopping app

23rd June 2014

Tesco has developed concept apps for Google Glass and the Samsung Galaxy Smart Watch that could fundamentally change the experience of shopping.

Tesco CIO Mike McNamara has reported on the progress of Tesco’s Innovation Labs, multi-disciplinary teams of designers, developers and researchers brought together to identify future trends in retail.

“We think wearables will be used in more contextual situations and have developed the app accordingly,” McNamara has blogged. He says that Tesco’s view is that wearable technology will be used for ‘micro interactions’ such as scanning a barcode to add to an online shopping list before a shopper forgets, rather than for carrying out a full grocery shop.

“We don’t think it will replace the smartphone or tablet,” McNamara adds.
