Tesco large store refurbishment programme accelerates

16th July 2014

Tesco, the UK’s leading supermarket chain, has accelerated the refurbishment programme of its large stores, as reported by Retail Design World earlier this year. The chain is seeking to win back customers who have been using discount retailers by emphasising value and providing additional services.

The refurbishments of two large Tesco Extra branches, in Silverburn, Glasgow, and White Cliff Park, Dover, have been completed during July.

Glasgow shoppers will benefit from extended ranges and a new Giraffe restaurant. The Dover branch now boasts a phone shop, branches of Timpson’s and Virgin Travel and a photo shop, plus a new bakery serving freshly made pancakes.

Additional stores have been scheduled for similar refurbishments, many adding branches of Giraffe or coffee brand Harris + Hoole. The company has said that smaller convenience formats, such as Tesco Express, are likely to drive future sales growth.
