Six-strong delicatessen chain Kostarelos Greek Delicacies, based in Attica in Greece, has introduced a new store format designed to kickstart an international and domestic expansion programme, featuring both owned and franchised stores.
Design agency Stirixis has designed the new format, which seeks to create a distinctive Greek Delicatessen environment that combines shopping for delicacies with a sit-in area offering special dishes.
The chain has evolved over three generations to offer its own cheese and dairy goods as well as a host of ranges sourced from other small Greek artisan producers. It briefed Stirixis to create a welcoming everyday experience where customers can be introduced to the pleasures of authentic Greek flavours.
The result is a cozy environment with details chosen to highlight the brand’s values and heritage. Pieces of the beech barrels used to age cheese cover the walls, while large pendant lights resemble the hoops of the barrels.
The floor tiles also refer to popular Greek colours, being similar to the country’s flag. A new pattern has been developed for the food preparation area, using icons to represent cheese, cold cuts, wheat and the plaid of traditional Greek tablecloths.
Kostarelos Greek Delicacies is looking to Europe, the USA and the Middle East for franchise opportunities.
