Sharps rolls out new store format to shopping centres

Sharps Bedrooms has rolled out its new concept store format to five Intu shopping centres, opening smaller stores than the ‘big box’ format once favoured by bed retailers in favour of the high footfall at shopping centres.

The store format, developed by The Market Creative, saw a 30 per cent sales uplift when introduced in London’s Baker Street.

The retailer has opened the five new stores in as many months, in units ranging from a 692 sq ft store at Intu Lakeside to a 2,738 sq ft site at Intu Broadmarsh. The stores are targeting the high concentration of female and affluent shoppers at the centres by presenting the Sharps product range in a showroom environment.

Sharps retail operations director Peter Welsh says, “By opening concept showrooms we can introduce the latest ranges to a wider group of consumers and offer the opportunity to explore and experience the luxury of Sharps’ fitted furniture. Intu’s popular shopping destinations are the perfect locations for our concept stores as they provide both high footfall and flexibility.”
