World Vision – the world’s largest international children’s charity – has launched a new interactive installation, called The Garden of Hope, at Westfield Stratford City
Designed by The Yard Creative, the installation takes the form of a garden of white jade plants. The design was inspired by a poverty-stricken young girl called White Jade, who inspired Dr BobPierce to found World Vision in 1950. The project follows a previous kiosk designed for The Yard Creative for World Vision, and sought to evolve the charity’s retail offer in premium shopping malls.
The organic form is designed to attract shoppers to interact with it, standing out against the clean backdrop of a modern mall. Natural materials including wood combine with the leaf shapes to create a warm and approachable feel.
Digital touchpoints are integrated throughout the installation – though human interaction is encouraged – allowing shoppers to learn about World Vision’s work.
It is possible to identify an individual child to sponsor at the kiosk, while features such as ‘tap to donate’ allow people to give without committing to a monthly donation.
“World Vision UK is very pleased to offer an innovative new way for us to engage with the public within the retail mall environment,” says the charity’s head of supporter growth Gareth Owen. “As well as connecting shoppers in the UK with the true-like stories of some of the world’s most vulnerable children… visitors can also find out about the range of ways they can support the charity and make a lasting difference to these children and their communities.”
