Lights on for Christmas in Carnaby Street

London’s Carnaby Street and the surrounding area has channelled Rio de Janeiro’s famous Carnival for its Christmas lights scheme this year, with a display that features 30 neon coconut trees, 27 giant party poppers, eight tropical flowers, and pairs of parrots, toucans, parakeets, flamingos and lovebirds.

Property group Shaftesbury, which manages the area, brought DJ Norman Jay MBE to switch on the lights while he played from a sequin stage in the middle of Carnaby Street.

“Christmas has officially launched in Carnaby, this year with brand new, Carnival themed installations never seen before in London. Carnaby is always looking to surprise visitors and bring excitement, and we feel this year’s installations are the best yet,” says Shaftesbury director Simon Quayle.
