Design showcase: First store for online jeweller Sarah & Sebastian

5th December 2017

Contemporary jewellery brand Sarah & Sebastian has opened its first permanent store, in Australia. The 21.5 sq m (231 sq ft) boutique is located in Oxford Street in Sydney’s Paddington and has been designed by Landini Associates.

Following Sarah & Sebastian’s online model the store makes most products to order, with only a small core range carried in stock.

Every piece is made in either the Paddington store or the company’s Alexandria studio.

The store takes the form of a rectangular glass jewellery box, but with no jewellery on display.

A mirrored wall conceals the collections, white reflecting the sandstone church across the street.

A jeweller’s bench, made of American Walnut and copper is the central focus of the store. A jeweller is the first point of contact and engagement when customers enter.

The store seeks to provide an intimate shopping experience, with the jeweller talking customers though raw materials and processes, and advising them on how to choose the most suitable piece.

The jeweller can light up sections of the rear wall – which features a one way mirror – to reveal the brand’s collections one at a time.
