Changing Places accessible loo for Intu Merry Hill

13th March 2018

Intu Merry Hill has opened a new Changing Places assisted accessible toilet, enabling shoppers who need help to use the facilities to have a more comfortable visit to the centre.

It is thought that up to 14m UK consumers cannot visit locations – or have to curtail their visits – to a lack of appropriate and accessible toilets.

The Merry Hill facility has been supplied and installed by Closomat, and is larger than the British Standard requirement of 3m x 4m. It features all of the equipment required for Changing Place compliance, including a WC, height adjustable washbasin, ceiling track hoist, adult-sized height adjustable changing bench, shower with height adjustable seat, and a privacy screen.

““We want to ensure that we make Intu Merry Hill as accessible and inclusive as we can. This important new space will ensure that customers who need access to a Changing Places facility can enjoy a safe and comfortable shopping experience whilst visiting Intu Merry Hill. It’s one of several measures which we are introducing, including training our staff, to provide welcoming experiences for all,” says Intu Merry Hill community development manager Naomi Campbell.

Neil Davies, chairman of charity organisation Dudley Voices for Choice, who opened the facility, says: “The new Changing Places in Intu Merry Hill is a welcome addition to the centre, and now people with disabilities can come along and spend the day here knowing that all of their needs can be met in one place.”
